Lake Parramatta - One of My New Favourite Spots for Family Photos
I’ve been doing a lot of location scouting lately trying to find new family photoshoot spots around Sydney that feel calm, natural and genuinely enjoyable for families to spend time in — and I think Lake Parramatta has quickly become one of my new favourite locations for family photos, especially if you’re based in Western Sydney.
It has a really beautiful balance of feeling peaceful and immersed in nature, while still being super accessible and easy for families with little ones.
Why I Love Shooting Family Photos at Lake Parramatta
The first time I visited, I was honestly surprised by how tranquil it felt.
There’s beautiful native Australian bushland, soft walking tracks, little pockets of light filtering through the trees and gorgeous water views but without needing to commit to a huge bushwalk or trek through the bush carrying bags and children.
It’s manicured but feels very “Australian” in the best way.
If you love natural family photos with earthy tones, gum trees and a relaxed feel, this spot photographs so beautifully.
The Morning Light Here Is So Worth It
If you’re thinking about booking a family photoshoot at Lake Parramatta, I’d almost always recommend an early morning session.
The mornings here are incredibly still and quiet, and the lake often turns completely glassy which creates the most beautiful soft reflections in photos.
It’s also much calmer before walkers and swimmers arrive, which makes the whole experience feel more relaxed for kids (and parents honestly).
The softer morning light is also so flattering in photos and helps create those dreamy, natural skin tones I love in my work.
Native Australian Flora Without the Bushwalk
One of my favourite things about Lake Parramatta is that you get all the beauty of native Australian flora without needing to disappear into the middle of the bush.
There are beautiful gum trees, textured greenery, earthy pathways and open spaces all within a really easy walking distance.
For families wanting an outdoor session that feels natural but still easy and accessible, it’s honestly such a good option.
I know a lot of popular family photoshoot locations in Sydney tend to be closer to the beaches or Eastern Suburbs, so I’ve been really excited to find somewhere this lovely for families based around Parramatta and Western Sydney.
It’s peaceful, convenient and photographs beautifully all year round.
